The Theater Arts Students of UP Diliman is proud to announce that we have been selected to be one of the ten competing theater groups (from US, Italy, Switzerland, Israel, Kosovo, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzogovina, Iran and the Philippines ) to perform in the Skena Up International Students Film and Theater Festival in Pristina, Kosovo (Europe) on Nov. 20-27, 2008. The selection committee has chosen the recent production of DULAANG UP'S "HINABING PAKPAK NG ATING MGA ANAK", a seering elegy for the abused and forgotten children and for Rene Villanueva, written and directed by Anton Juan, Jr., Ph.D.
We have formed a thirteen-man delegation composed of students from the B.A. and Certificate Program of Theater Arts to become the first Asian group to attend the festival. We are very eager not only for the opportunity of furthering our education but especially for the chance of representing the Philippines, for showcasing our craft that U.P. has honed and for the privilege of performing a piece to the world that is both relevant and haunting.
Moreover, we shall perform for our kababayan in Athens, Greece since the country will be part of the route.
In this light, we humbly ask for your support. We are all students of the University of the Philippines and have limited sources. In order for us to attend the festival, we need to raise enough money for our airfare. We are asking for donations and any amount shall be gratefully accepted.
We hope that you can help us spread the message of the play and prove to the world once more that we are a nation of world-class talent.
